A smart helmet connected to a platform collects data in real time and is able to detect risk situations by automatic and manual alerts

Benidorm participates in a pilot project to improve the safety of waste collection workers and prevent accidents

Benidorm participa en un proyecto piloto para mejorar la seguridad de los trabajadores de recogida de residuos y prevenir accidentes

Benidorm City Council has taken a step forward in Labor risk prevention and the protection of workers thanks to its participation in a project with a private company that has completed an innovative pilot project for the prevention of accidents and the improvement of safety for workers.

The project was carried out last July and included the participation of the concessionaire for Street Cleaning and Solid Waste Collection, FCC. It involves the implementation of a smart device, HALO-I, which is connected to the Halotech platform and during its testing has met all the established objectives. Thus, this device, a helmet, allows the system to interact effectively with the workers and collect data in real-time.

Among the conclusions collected, according to Manu Marín, CEO of Halotech Digital Services S.L., Its “effectiveness” in risk detection has been confirmed, since the combination of the device and the platform was “highly effective in detecting and notifying risk situations such as falls or physical discomfort, by sending automatic and manual SOS alerts.” These results motivated the operators to express their “high satisfaction” with the system, “highlighting its ease of use and the comfort of the smart helmet.” Likewise, the technical data collected has confirmed “the reliability and precision of the system in demanding working conditions.”

Marín has indicated that the implementation of the HALO-I device and the Halotech platform “has demonstrated its transformative potential in workplace safety.” He has also pointed out that the objective is “to build a future in which technology acts as a lifeline in real-time.” For this reason, he has described this new device as “the beginning of our most ambitious mission to protect workers in all sectors and environments.”

For his part, the Councillor for Street Cleaning in Benidorm, Luis Navarro, has highlighted “the importance of this type of initiative” and stressed that “the safety of our workers is an absolute priority”. Regarding the pilot, he emphasised that “it has allowed us to see first-hand how technology can be effectively integrated into work processes to reduce risks and improve working conditions”.

Navarro has advanced in this regard that “we will continue to explore, deepen and support any innovation that contributes to having a safer and more advanced city”. In his opinion, initiatives such as this “mark milestones in public-private collaboration when it comes to advancing the protection of workers through technology”. The councillor has assured that both parties, the City Council and the company, will continue working together “to expand and improve this technology to implement it on a larger scale in the city”.
