Part of this configuration will be final when the work on Mediterráneo Avenue is finished, which now arrives in Esperanto and Bilbao streets

Benidorm opens Puente Street to l’Aigüera traffic and derives access to the Old Town to Dr. Pérez Llorca

21 November 2019
Benidorm abre al tráfico la calle Puente hacia l’Aigüera y deriva el acceso al Casco Antiguo por Dr. Pérez Llorca

The Department of Mobility will start next Monday the traffic diversions on the occasion of the start of works in Esperanto and Bilbao streets, works related to the remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue, which according to the mayor of the area, José Ramón González De Zárate "They will almost certainly be definitive once the works are finished."

Next Monday, the traffic cut will be made in Esperanto Street, which will imply the opening to traffic of Puente Street to direct traffic towards l’Àigüera street. The cut Bilbao Avenue, meanwhile, will imply that access to the Old Town is done by Doctor Pérez Llorca, which according to the councillor "will imply the beginning of access control to the old town through cameras." In this regard, De Zárate has stressed that the double address on the Paseo de Levante that has operated in recent months is abolished, and “only authorized vehicles can access: the residents of the Old Town throughout the day and cargo vehicles and download until 10.30 in the morning. ” The mayor added that "we will be very rigorous with access control to the Old Town, imposing sanctions on those who access improperly."

The councilor has made an appeal to the establishments in the area to adapt their schedules to those of loading and unloading, as well as to neighbors and owners who have not yet processed the access permit to proceed to do so in order to avoid claims later in case of sanction.

While these works are being executed, the taxi rank will be established on the stretch of Esperanto Street closest to Finestrat Street. As regards the urban bus stop, “the service concession company, Avanza, has decided to transfer it to Gerona Street at its intersection with Journalist Emilio Romero”.

Once the work is finished, access to l'Aigüera and Esperanto will remain open from Mediterráneo Avenue, while traffic through the delimited Triangular square remains at a maximum speed of 10 km / h, as the councilor explained “it is an area fully pedestrian ”.

The importance of the works in both streets lies in the subsoil, although the complete reform in both roads is also undertaken. Once the current Esperanto section is completed, the councillor has announced that "very likely the performance will continue immediately on the section that reaches Finestrat Avenue."

The remodeling of Mediterráneo Avenue is meeting the deadlines and, if there are no unforeseen events, the bulk of the work will be finished during Holy Week. De Zárate has announced that "it is possible that on Monday we will start paving." The councillor has been cautious about the deadlines in this regard because it is "a completely new pavement and we have to see how it behaves once it begins to be placed."

Next week the furniture also begins to arrive, so “once the work aspect begins to be installed, it will be very important”.
