The municipal groups come together to pay tribute to the young councilor from Ermua assassinated by ETA

Benidorm observes five minutes of silence as a rejection of terrorism on the 25th anniversary of the murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco

Benidorm guarda cinco minutos de silencio como repulsa al terrorismo en el 25º aniversario del asesinato de Miguel Ángel Blanco

Almost a hundred people have gathered today at the gates of the Benidorm City Hall to express their most resounding show of condemnation and rejection of terrorism, on the day that marks the 25th anniversary of the murder of the councillor of Ermua, Miguel Ángel Blanco, at the hands of the terrorist group ETA.

Unanimity and institutional unity have been the hallmarks of this commemoration in the Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España, in which five minutes of silence have been observed in tribute to the murdered councilman.

Today, July 13, marks the 25th anniversary of that murder, an ETA crime that, due to its cruelty, shocked society and the institutions of Spain and the world.

For this reason, and in tribute and recognition to all the victims of terrorism, the Benidorm City Council, following the invitation of the FEMP, yesterday summoned all its neighbours to attend this noon to observe those five minutes of silence, as a sign of solidarity. and in rejection of any kind of terrorist act.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, recalled yesterday that "those unfortunate events of 1997 marked a turning point in Spanish society regarding the barbarism of terrorism and the murderous gang ETA" and twenty-five years later it is time, said Pérez, to testify that the 'Spirit of Ermua', which emerged after the kidnapping and subsequent murder “of the young councillor Miguel Ángel Blanco Garrido, is still alive and is part of our collective history”.
