Police presence has been stepped up at the city’s main entry and exit points, as well as on its beaches

Benidorm Local Police has launched a special operation for the 15 August bank holiday weekend, “one of the busiest periods of the summer in terms of the number of people and vehicles in the city”, according to Councillor for Public Service Jesús Carrobles. The operation will run from today until next Sunday, with particular attention being paid to traffic management at Benidorm’s main entry and exit points.

In fact, Spain’s Directorate-General for Traffic (DGT) expects around 5.6 million road journeys across the country between 3 pm this Friday and midnight on Sunday night.

Carrobles explained that the Local Police operation will involve “additional police officers at the main access points to ensure that traffic flows smoothly and is better controlled”, as well as increased police presence “on the beaches” to deal with the expected rise in visitors over the weekend.

The councillor urged drivers to show “understanding and patience if, during the busiest periods, traffic becomes somewhat heavier at Benidorm’s busiest points”. He also reminded motorists that the city has more than 8,000 free park-and-ride parking spaces, many of which are located at the city’s main entry points.
