Benidorm City Council renews its agreement with the animal rescue charity and strengthens its commitment to animal welfare
The Council is providing €50,000 to ensure the care, accommodation and welfare of animals rescued in the city
Today, Benidorm City Council has renewed its collaboration agreement with the ‘Marina Baixa’ Animal and Plant Protection Society, the organisation responsible for taking in and caring for abandoned domestic animals in the municipality. The agreement, signed by Mayor Toni Pérez and the charity’s president, Pilar López Cepeda, provides €50,000 in municipal funding to cover the costs of collecting, feeding and providing veterinary care for the animals.
According to the Mayor, this direct grant “ensures that the service can continue to operate with full guarantees”. Pérez also highlighted “Benidorm’s commitment and sensitivity towards animals that have no home and need protection”.
Councillor for Health Ana Pellicer also attended the signing. She pointed out that the funding enables the charity “to care for all animals rescued from the streets, covering both their food and the veterinary treatment they require”. She also highlighted the organisation’s educational and awareness-raising work, as well as its campaigns promoting responsible pet adoption.
Pellicer also highlighted the charity's support for people who, due to personal circumstances, can no longer care for their animals. Both she and the Mayor called for greater public responsibility, reminding residents that adopting an animal involves a “long-term commitment to a living being”.
It is also worth noting that the Municipal Environmental Protection Ordinance classifies the abandonment of domestic animals as a “very serious” offence, punishable by a fine of up to €900.
