Benidorm acoge una jornada de sensibilización sobre el suicidio en la infancia y adolescencia y la mutilación genital femenina

The city of Benidorm has hosted today a day of awareness on suicide in childhood and adolescence and female genital mutilation, and aimed at establishing a space to detect risk situations and act before them in a coordinated and multisectoral manner. Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, has been commissioned to open these days, aimed especially at professionals in the social, health and teaching fields; that have been developed in the Hall of Acts of the City Council; and in which about a hundred people have participated.

During the opening, which has been attended by different members of the government team and the corporation, the director of the Servei Psicopedagògic Escolar A.05, Lourdes Rada, explained that it is necessary to "make known and put into action" the protocol of action that already exists in health, as well as promoting one that makes it possible to derive from the educational field to the sanitary the cases of minors in situation of risk detected.

He also pointed out the pertinence of "contributing to the creation of networks of professionals from different fields that favor multidisciplinary quality responses" to meet "the needs of our children and youth population"; and ask the regional administration to create "spaces" that allow this coordinated work.

The day has been divided into two blocks. The first one dealt with female genital mutilation, in which professionals from Gynecology and Sexual Health from the Doctor Peset University Hospital in Valencia and an agent from the Community Base organization participated. The second block has focused on the prevention of suicide in childhood and adolescence, with the participation of a clinical psychologist and a social worker.
