Benidorm returns to Middle Ages at the weekend with its Medieval Market

07 May 2019
Benidorm vuelve a la Edad Media el fin de semana con su Mercado Medieval

For the fourth consecutive year, Benidorm will be immersed again this weekend in the Middle Ages through the medieval market, which until Sunday May 12 will be installed in the Parque de Elche and the street of the Mayor José Such coinciding with the commemoration of 694 Anniversary of the granting of the Poblament Letter.

The councilman of Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; the president of the Independent Association of Merchants (AICO), Raúl Parra; and the representative of Legend company, Luis Leal; have presented today the new edition of 'Benidorm Medieval', which will feature "almost 100 stalls" of crafts, products of the land and restoration; playgrounds for children; and entertainment shows every 20 minutes.

The mayor of Fiestas has indicated that this initiative "has been growing every year, with the involvement of AICO, to become a medieval market benchmark in the Marina Baixa." Carrobles pointed out that "the important animation with the great number of minstrel shows, dancers, medieval warriors or falconry", added to the variety of craft and restaurant stands make this market "almost a theme park".

For his part, the president of AICO has stressed the importance of this event that "attracts tourists and people from all over the province to the city", thus being a complement and attraction for Benidorm "in the middle season".

Parra explained that when choosing the positions that are assembled in this market "an offer of product that is usually not sold in the Benidorm trade" is sought, in order to "try to make the minimum competition to the establishments of the city". Among the hundred market stalls, they will also have their own space The Cultural and Recreational Association 'La Barqueta' and the association AERBECO.

The representative of Legend, in turn, has indicated that "in this edition" the 'Medieval Benidorm' will feature "the best theater companies and artists of medieval themes", as well as nationally recognized music groups. One of these groups, Treefolk, will be in charge of setting the market even before the official opening, scheduled for Friday at 18.00. Thus, during the assembly work on Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, the music of troubadours will be heard at Parque de Elche and in Calle Mayor José Such.

On Saturday and Sunday, the market will open its doors at 11.00 and at 18.00. During the whole day of both days there will be shows.
