The Advisory Council of Urban Scene study the regulation of use and management of urban gardens


Municipal Engineering and Architecture technicians have already completed the tender specifications for the drafting of the renovation of Mediterráneo Avenue, including the suggestions made by the Advisory Council of Urban Scene. The councilman for Urban Scene, José Ramón Gónzalez de Zárate, reported that this advisory body yesterday gave virtually closed these specifications, although "the government team and municipal technicians have 10 days in case any member of the Council wants include any news. " Zárate was convinced that the characteristics of the project and the requirements contained in the tender; this tender "will bring international companies to Benidorm" of great technical and economic solvency; and he added that both the government and the rest of the corporation are keen that can be executed as soon as possible. The drafting is going to be tendered "for 200,000 euros plus VAT" and not only for the renovation of the avenue, but also the adjacent streets that connect to the beach. The councilman indicated that deadlines should be met, in early November, then these specifications will be forwarded to the Contracting department and subsequently to Intervention, although both departments have already made a first supervision. "The idea of ​​the government and the corporation" is to have the project in the first quarter of 2017, "before summer in order to tender the renovation of the avenue, or at least the first phase and begin the work at the end of the year ". Zárate indicated that the stretch to run will depend on the municipal budget.

Urban gardens

Apart from the renovation of  Mediterráneo Avenue, members of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene has already the draft regulation allocation, use and management of urban gardens that the city is creating in a municipal plot next to Italia street. The councilman explained that these 22 gardens of 4x4 meters will be integrated into a garden and that the City Hall will open a process of assigning them. In this regard he recalled that in 2011 the City Council allocated about 60 retirees urban gardens in the area of Xixo finally not implemented. The draft regulation now raises a new assignment and open the range of potential bidders "unemployed or people with disabilities". The members of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene now have one month to make suggestions to the draft, in which the requirements for the interested parties are specified. In the same meeting yesterday, most members of the Advisory Council of Urban Scene supported the municipal project to clean up the new public space that will be set in front of the cemetery Virgen del Suffrage -in the confluence of Nicaragua and Uruguay streets once the City Council takes office in the next week to plot occupied for years by a fast food restaurant. Zárate clarified that although the plenary session agreed the complete demolition of the establishment, "we have seen a number of shortcomings in the cemetery, like a warehouse and small toilets." Hence the technicians have proposed to keep 30% of the current building and convert it into a warehouse and toilets in a garden area and that serves to access to the churchyard. This garden incorporated into the cemetery may be open or closed at night depending on the needs. The councilman indicated that the City Council expects the company owning the property finance these works taking advantage of the cost of savings for not having to demolish the whole building.
