Benidorm expands outdoor sports facilities with a new calisthenics zone in Poniente
Benidorm has had a new outdoor sports facility for several days now, according to the Departments of Urban Scene and Sports. It is a new callisthenics park located on Avenida Alcalde Vicente Pérez Devesa, next to the pump truck track. This facility, designed to promote physical activity, healthy living, and the responsible use of public spaces, was visited by the heads of both departments, Francis Muñoz and Javier Jordá.
The park has been conceived as a functional exercise area, comprised of various training elements that allow users to work on strength, coordination, and mobility through bodyweight exercises. The facility includes parallel bars, pull-up bars, monkey bars, a Swedish wall, and an abdominal bench, creating a versatile space suitable for users of varying fitness levels.
The exercise equipment, as detailed by the Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz, has been installed on a sand surface, “a solution that improves impact absorption and helps reduce the risk of injury.” The area also features informational signage with usage recommendations and basic rules for safe enjoyment of the facility.
In terms of safety, the park meets all the requirements of the UNE-EN 16630:2015 standard, which regulates fixed outdoor exercise equipment. The inspection carried out certified that the materials used and the structural integrity of the elements “are suitable for public use,” Muñoz stated.
Furthermore, the installation will be integrated into the municipal program of periodic maintenance and control, which includes annual inspections, “to guarantee that the park remains in proper condition, safe and functional, over time.” With this project, the councillor added, “the City Council is reinforcing its commitment to creating accessible, high-quality sports facilities, promoting healthy lifestyles and the active use of public spaces by residents and visitors.”
This new facility joins the callisthenics parks that the City Council already operates in Poniente, the Leisure Park next to the bullring, and the Rincón de Loix urban park.
