Benidorm condemns a new death due to sexist violence
Benidorm has condemned today a new sexist crime registered in Spain, the eighth so far in 2022. In a new concentration, held in the Plaza SSMM Reyes de España and headed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, members of the Corporation and neighbours have shown their rejection of this new murder, which brings to 1,134 the number of women murdered by their partners or former partners since 2003.
The crime occurred last week in the Barcelona neighbourhood of Sant Martí. The victim, a 25-year-old woman, was murdered by her ex-partner, who appeared at a police station to confess the facts. The man is in provisional prison, solitary confinement and without bail. The couple had a minor child.
The Department of Equality has recalled that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it insists that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to eliminate it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and in 52 languages.
