The first phase of these works is financed by the concessionaire FCC, while the second will be carried out by the Waste Consortium
Benidorm carries out the maintenance work on the ecopark planned in the agreement before its transfer to Consorci Mare

Benidorm City Council has already begun extraordinary maintenance work on the town's ecopark, as established in the agreement signed between the council and the Consorci Mare waste management company, under which the latter entity assumes responsibility for the management of the facility. This agreement was unanimously approved at the last ordinary plenary session.
For this reason, this morning, the Councillor for the Environment, Mónica Gómez, visited the ecopark accompanied by the Councillor for Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro, and the president of Consorci Mare, José Ramón González de Zárate, also a councillor in Benidorm. Gómez noted that this maintenance work is being carried out by the concessionaire FCC, and is as stipulated in the agreement." The councilor also emphasised that it will be completed within two months and that "it will not cost the City Council anything." Mónica Gómez also clarified that the work "does not address any deficiencies, but rather represents improvements required to return the facility to perfect condition."
The project has a cost of approximately €90,000, according to González de Zárate, who also noted that these works are being carried out "because a facility that is more than 20 years old needed to be updated before handing it over to the Consortium." The work consists of providing accessibility to the facility, installing a perimeter wall, repairing restrooms and exterior lighting, and also working on the truck unloading areas, as the walls are showing some deterioration due to the constant traffic of these heavy vehicles.
The president of the Consortium explained that the second phase of the work, which will be carried out by the Waste Consortium, "will consist of the digitisation of the facility." This will mean that any user in the 52 municipalities included in the Consortium will be able to take their waste there, "and after registering for the first time, they will be eligible for the discount that will be implemented next year."
González de Zárate stated that this new management system will be a "significant" saving for the city, which he estimated at around 1.5 to 2 million euros, "which is the cost of the ecopark." At the same time, the Consortium will also have a lower waste management fee. This benefit will also extend to users "because they will have a greater variety of waste to take to the ecopark and will receive direct discounts." "Those who make good use of the ecoparks, both fixed and mobile, will reap benefits," he added.
In this regard, González de Zárate expressed confidence in a significant increase in the Consortium's users, which now number 9,000, thanks to the Benidorm Ecopark, the Pedreguer Ecopark, and the seven mobile ecoparks that travel to all municipalities. "Ultimately, what we're doing is complying with the law, which establishes that the consortia are the entities that must manage the ecoparks," he concluded.
