Benidorm approves the project of the first phase of Séquia Mare Park

31 October 2017
Benidorm aprueba el proyecto de la primera fase del Parque de la Séquia Mare

This action has a grant of about 700,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante and will be completed by the autunm of 2018

The Local Government Board has approved today the technical project of the first phase of the Séquia Mare Park, which last Friday was presented to the members of the Council of Urban Scene - of which the political groups are part - and that yesterday was ruled in informative commission. The mayor, Toni Pérez, recalled that this action has a nominative grant from the Diputación de Alicante of around 700,000 euros, so once the project is published in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) and the administrative process, an agreement will be signed with the body chaired by César Sánchez and the work will be tendered.

This first phase of the project is valued at 983,213 euros and contemplates acting on approximately 70,000 of the 170,000 square meters of total area that Séquia Mare will have, which "is configured as a fundamental interconnection area of the bus station, the halt of the TRAM , the Palau d'Esports, the Els Tolls neighborhood and the park's green areas ".

The mayor has detailed that in this first phase will be provided to the entire area of electricity, water, sewer and lighting services; the paths and routes of 'running', 'walking' and bicycle will be traced; and playgrounds will be installed, such as petanque and zip-line. Specifically, the project includes a network of 1.7 kilometers of pedestrian paths; another one of about 1,000 meters destined to the circulation in perimeter bicycle to the park; and a third of something more than a kilometer to practice running.

Although the trails and tracks will run throughout the park's surface, the rest of the actions will focus mainly on the existing pine forest and its closest areas. In the area of the pine forest it will be necessary to carry out a cleaning of some specimens to facilitate their growth, as well as the removal of trees that are sick.

Pérez has pointed out that "by the fall of 2018, we Benidorms will be able to enjoy that natural plot perfectly embedded in the urban", and in which residents and tourists will be able to find an important "sports, leisure and entertainment offer". The mayor stressed that "we have been able to transform a municipal space that few people paid attention to, in a focus also to enhance our culture and traditions", since "their own name reminds us that in this environment there are last vestiges in public land of the Greater Irrigation promoted by Beatriz Fajardo in the XVII century ". The mayor has concluded that the whole park "has been established as one of the most important spaces that we will be able to develop dedicated to leisure, sports and relaxation."
