The Local Police incorporates two dogs to the service to improve surveillance in public spaces

The City Council assumes part of the cost of the training of the animals for the detection of narcotics

Starting this November, the Local Police of Benidorm will have "a more effective tool for surveillance in public spaces such as parks, squares or schools" with the addition of two trained dogs to the service. After being ruled yesterday in an informative commission, the City Council has approved an agreement for the incorporation of two police dogs, on the basis of which the administration will assume part of the expenses derived from the training and continuous training of these animals, while the agents who own the dogs will bear the costs of feeding and vet.

The Councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez, has indicated that "there will be two agents who will patrol with the dogs, who are already trained but who will perfect their training in areas such as the detection of narcotic substances".

Martínez explained that "we have decided to incorporate these means to the Local Police in view of the good results of the pilot experience that was tested a few months ago," and "in response to the requirement that neighborhood groups and the educational community have made. , who ask us for more police presence in the parks and school zones, mainly in the institutes ".

The mayor has been convinced that "the work will be a success and will give good results", while clarifying that "the system we have chosen to incorporate these dogs is the most effective, after studying the methods that are applied in other municipalities of the province ". This transfer agreement requires that both the dog and the owner agent have training.

The agreement reaches until the end of 2018. For the remaining two months of 2017 it will assume part of the training costs of the animals for an amount of 567 euros, while committing a total expenditure of 3,400 euros for the following twelve months.
