More than 300 volunteers have joined this initiative, which has already attended a hundred cases

Benidorm also activates the free phone number 900101215 for the Collective Aid Network against coronavirus

Benidorm activa también el teléfono gratuito 900101215 para la Red de Ayuda Colectiva frente al coronavirus

Benidorm City Council has activated a second free telephone service to attend the Collective Aid Network (#RAC) against the coronavirus launched from the Mayor's Office and which seeks to channel and coordinate the wave of solidarity that arose among citizens after decreeing the state of alarm by the crisis of COVID-19. Thus, from today the phone 900 10 12 15 is also operational, which is added to the existing one: 900 701 322. Both phones are available to assist people who need help when filling in the forms for joining the #RAC program , who have any questions about the initiative or who lack the means or technical or computer knowledge to process their participation in it.

Numbers 900 701 322 and 900 10 12 15 are operational every day from 09:00 to 19:00.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, recalled that “through this Network, the aim is to guarantee basic care to those who need it most during the coronavirus crisis, paying special attention to the most vulnerable groups, such as our elders or people with mobility problems ”

Pérez reported that at the moment “we have more than 300 volunteers, with whose altruistic and disinterested collaboration more than a hundred requests for help have already been met; some cases that are added to those that are being directly treated by social workers and other professionals of the City Council ”. Likewise, professionals from the municipal Social Services are attending to the cases of people who need psychological help that have been detected as a result of the #RAC implementation.

Thanks to all this solidarity work “we are taking care of, attending to, and facilitating the day-to-day lives of the most vulnerable people by purchasing food and medicine for them, or by mitigating their loneliness by accompanying them by phone and thus preventing them from taking risks by going out to the Street".

Since the #RAC was launched, the services most demanded by users have been the purchase of grouceries and medicines, taking out the garbage or phone calls. The personnel in charge of coordinating the Network carry out daily monitoring of each case. Likewise, the requests for help of each individual are attended as far as possible always by the same volunteer.

In addition to helping users who are members of the #RAC, volunteer groups that collaborate with relevant professionals in caring for the homeless space launched by the Department of Social Welfare in Raúl Mesa pavilion; while two other groups collaborate in the distribution of food in the parishes of La Almudena and San Francisco de Asís.

How to join the network

Remember that to be part of this Collective Aid Network, all you have to do is fill out the 'volunteer' or 'you need help' form, depending on the case, available on the City Council website –https: //benidorm.org/es/incidencia/ campana-ayuda-contra-el-coronavirus- and Visit Benidorm –https: //en.visitbenidorm.es/ver/5583/help-benidorm-coronavirus.html, in both Spanish and English. Today these phone links are joined by the phone 900 701 322.

In these forms, the volunteers must provide, among other information, their neighborhood, time availability, possible knowledge of languages and areas in which they would like to collaborate: support for people with disabilities or the elderly, leisure and free time, purchase of food and / or medicines, support in Civil Protection tasks, etc. For their part, people who need help should indicate what kind of care they require - purchasing medicines, child or elderly care, help preparing food, etc. - as well as what days or hours they need it.
