Archaeologists of the UA present tomorrow a recreation in 3D of the 'castellum' of El Tossal

08 May 2017
Arqueólogos de la UA presentan mañana una recreación en 3D del ‘castellum’ de El Tossal

Feliciana Sala will review the advances and discoveries made in the four excavation campaigns, and will advance the objective of the fifth, scheduled for summer

Archaeologists at the University of Alicante (UA) led by Feliciana Sala have developed a 3D recreation of the Roman 'castellum' of El Tossal, a fortress of the first century BC that was active during the Sertorian wars and was located on the top Of the hill of La Cala. This recreation will be presented tomorrow in the premiere during the conference 'Last results in The Tossal of La Cala: the Roman' castellum 'Republican re-discovered, which Sala will offer from 8 pm in the Hall of Acts of the City.

The reconstruction in 3D has been able to elaborate from all the information obtained by the archaeologists in the last four campaigns of excavations; And also thanks to the aerial images taken by the dron of the Local Police, that have allowed to obtain a global perspective of the deposit.

During the conference, Feliciana Sala will review the discoveries and archaeological advances made since 2013, the year in which the Department of Historic Heritage promoted the first campaign of excavations in El Tossal with the Institute of Research in Archeology of the UA.

In these four years, the work has focused on the fenced sector of the site, which previously worked with Father Belda, Tarradell, Ramos and García Hernández. The most significant finding was that of the wall, already described by Father Belda, and confirmed that the El Tossal deposit was a Roman fort and not an Iberian settlement as was thought for decades.

At the conference tomorrow, the archaeologist will also advance the objectives of the fifth excavation campaign, scheduled for next July and which will focus on the wall.
