Under the slogan "The value of the caregiver 'from 14 to 21 September, Benidorm celebrates its thirteenth week of Alzheimer organized by the Association of Relatives of Alzheimer's Marina Baixa (AFA) in collaboration with the department of Social Welfare. On the balcony of the City Hall of Benidorm, a banner to commemorate the event has been placed. In presenting the program of events, the councillor for Social Welfare, Angela Llorca thanked "the work carried out by AFA Marina Baixa for people with this disease," and for the "family environment". Therefore, as stated in the motto, it is intended to claim the role of those who care for the sick people. For his part, the president of AFA, Garbiñe Mondragón, said that Alzheimer's patients "needs someone to be with them all the time." Caregivers not only do not take a secondary role, actually "are the anonymous heroes," stressed Mondragón, because they are always there, working and suffering "physical and psychological" consequences associated with disease and that "may be extended for many years ". Mondragón showed statistics about the effects of this disease in our country. "In Spain he said 1,128,000 people suffer Alzheimer" and in 94% of cases "the family takes care of the them."
Program of events
The activities of Alzheimer Week 2016 will start on Wednesday, September 14, with a trip to Xàtiva (La Costera). On Thursday 15, at 18.30 at the City Hall, there will be a talk 'The role of family medicine in dementias'. On Friday 16, at 10.30 am, at the premises of the association, there will be a discussion "Learning to care". In the afternoon, the same day, at 19.30, in the parish of La Almudena, a mass will be held in memory of those who died last year. On Sunday, September 18, at 13.30 pm in Almafra camping, it will take place the most fun event of the week: A solidarity meal with Hilda Show and games for children. On Monday, September 19, conference at the City Hall with the talk 'Nobody decides for you. Wills anticipated ', at 18.30. On Tuesday in the premises of AFA Marina Baixa, will take place at 10.00 am a cooking workshop for partners, collaborators and friends. The big day of the Week 2016 will be on Wednesday, September 21, 'World Day of Alzheimer's.
