All the people and entities that requested one of the new urban gardens set up by the Department of the Environment in l'Horta area will have a plot, as reported today by the councillor for the department, Mónica Gómez, once the ordinary deadline for request.

Gómez has detailed that "the 49 enabled plots are located on a municipal land of 8,500 square meters in the Camí de la Parva, in the district of l'Almafrà", and has added that "with its commissioning, Benidorm already adds more than 120 urban gardens distributed throughout the city, specifically in the neighbourhoods of Els Tolls, La Cala and l'Horta”.

According to the data provided today by the mayor, finally, "there have been 40 private applicants, to whom is added the Association of Neighbors of l'Horta, which leaves 8 vacant plots that may be awarded later, in an extraordinary application period ”.

Goméz has advanced that "the winners and the neighbourhood association will receive the keys to the facilities next week" and "as at the time the beneficiaries of the orchards that are already operational in La Cala and Els Tolls, they will also receive an educational talk on organic farming”.

The area of ​​the urban gardens of the Camí de la Parva is fenced off and has an exclusive access gate for the owners of the gardens. An area of ​​aromatic plants with species such as rosemary, thyme, oregano, basil or mint has also been set up on the plot to avoid as much as possible the presence of pests that affect the crops.

The Councilor for the Environment recalled that the creation of these fifty urban gardens has been included in the practical training of the Escola d'Ocupació Et Formem Benidorm II, a program that has had the support of the Valencian Employment Service and Training (LABORA) and the European Social Fund. Thus, "the 10 students who have participated in this program, with the collaboration of the Technical Services brigade of the Department of Public Space, have been in charge of conditioning the land, parcelling it out and providing it with all the necessary services for agricultural practice".
