700 anniversary
On May 8, 2025, it will be 700 years since Admiral Bernat de Sarrià granted Benidorm a Town Charter in a document delivered in Valencia before the notary Joan Cerdà. This legal document, which marks the “birth” of Benidorm as a town, established the boundaries of the municipality, as well as the rights and duties that corresponded to the new settlers, who settled in Punta Canfali.
Over seven centuries, the city has experienced different events and vicissitudes until it became a leading tourist destination in the Mediterranean. Such a significant anniversary deserves the utmost attention and complicity from this City Council and all citizens.
The intention is to promote activities and events to celebrate this anniversary and involve civil society, both residents and visitors. This work is supervised by the 'Comissió del 700 aniversari de la fundació de Benidorm', which is responsible for proposing and organizing as many initiatives as are considered appropriate to spread this commemoration; a commemoration whose logo has been created and designed by the local artist Miguel Bayona.
