Jellyfish Identification and Treatment Summer Season 2024

14 November 2024
Moon jellyfish or common jellyfish (Aurelia aurita)

In Benidorm, the most common jellyfish are the common jellyfish (Aurelia aurita), the luminescent jellyfish (Pelagia noctiluca) and the fried egg jellyfish (Cotylorhiza tuberculata). The Aurelia aurita is transparent with whitish edges and four circles inside. The Pelagia noctiluca is known for its bioluminescence, it has a pink or purple colour and long tentacles. The Cotylorhiza tuberculata is unmistakable for its fried egg-like appearance, with a yellow central body surrounded by white and purple tentacles. During the summer, warm currents attract these jellyfish, which requires caution when swimming.

You can also find a manual to identify them and what to do in case of a sting.
