Ermita de Sanç
The Hermitage of San Antonio Abad, located in Sanz, about 5 kms away from the city centre. There is a document that sets the existence of this place in 1740, when Tomás Sanz, solicitor of the Baroness in Polop and Benidorm, Beatriz Fajardo Mendoza, lady of the land, ordered to build this chapel.
It is a modest construction with a bell tower and a rectangular portico on the main façade. The current construction is from 1903.
The chapel and its surroundings is a very special place and of great social relevance. People from Benidorm meet here to celebrate special events like Fiestas del Roser and Sant Antoni.
The building attached to the chapel, La Casa del Llauraor, represents the rural architecture of the region. In the back of this house there was a riurau, a construction destined to the cultivation of grapes in the variety of Monastrell and Moscatel that was very important at that time until the epidemic of phylloxera in the early XX century.
