More than 7,000 people participate in the march to support breast and gynecological cancer research
Whiter than ever, Anémona's 'pink tide' sweeps through Benidorm in solidarity
Benidorm hosted a new edition of the Solidarity March organised by Anémona (Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynaecological Cancer), Marina Baixa, today, Sunday. According to sources from the association, more than 7,000 people participated, setting a new record for participation in this traditional event dedicated to the fight against the disease.
The march covered approximately eight kilometres, linking the Old Town, Paseo Marítimo de Poniente, and Mirador de la Música on Paseo de Tamarindos, starting and finishing at Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España.
The Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, led the march, along with the president of Anémona, María Botella, and a large number of members of the municipal council. Also participating were regional representatives José Ramón González de Zárate and Mario Villar, who were joined by the queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Paula Sánchez and Aitana Pérez; the president of the Commission, Susana Martínez; and the president of the Association of Verge del Sofratge Penyes, Jonathan López, and a large crowd of citizens who formed the traditional "pink tide," although transformed into the white colour of the 2025 promotional T-shirts.
The march departed at 10.00 a.m. from Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España and continued to Paseo de Tamarindos, where a refreshment point was located. After just over two hours, the last participants returned to the starting point, concluding an activity notable for its solidarity and good atmosphere.
At the end of the march, they returned to Plaza de SS. MM. los Reyes de España, where Anémona received a check for 5,000 euros, raised by windsurfer Darío Quesada and Benidorm Yacht Club after completing the challenge of covering the distance between the city and Ibiza in a non-stop 83 nautical miles (150 km) undertaken by the local athlete.
The day continued with a closing party, where participants were able to partake, despite the rain that began to fall at midday, of the gastronomic offerings offered altruistically by the city's restaurants that collaborate in solidarity with Anémona and with the selfless service work of the Horizontes Scout Group. With this activity, Anémona concludes the commemorative events for International Breast Cancer Day, which have combined sport, advocacy, and coexistence in Benidorm.
