Vicente Pérez Devesa Trinquet hosts the XXXIV 'Trofeu Nadal de Benidorm' of Escala i Corda
Vicente Pérez Devesa Trinquet will once again be the stage that hosts 'Benidorm Nadal Trophy', which this year will celebrate its XXXIV edition, and which was presented this morning at a press conference by the Councilor for Sports, Javier Jordá. Vicente Pérez Agulló, son of Pérez Devesa, was with him at the presentation; Vicent Buigues, coordinator of the municipal trinquet, and a representation of the players who will participate in the tournament.
This trophy "is one of the most traditional events of the season and the oldest of those organized to commemorate these dates" stated the Sports Councilor, who highlighted that "leading figures in this sport will attend and will contribute to having a special recognition to the person of Vicente Pérez Devesa, who was mayor of the city and who worked so hard to care for and promote a hallmark of Valencians such as the pilota.”
The 'Trofeu' will start this Sunday the 17th at noon with the first semifinal between Pere Roc II and Héctor against Giner and Pere. The second semifinal will take place on Sunday the 24th at noon and will play Francés and Santi against Salva Palau and Tomás II.
The final will be played on Sunday the 31st also at 12 between the winners of the semifinals. It should be noted that before the semifinals, previous games will be played between young 'pilotaris'.
Jordá has indicated that "it is an honour to be able to celebrate these games of a sport that has more and more followers and that is a great opportunity to come with the family to enjoy it."
Vicent Buigues, for his part, has highlighted the figure of Pérez Devesa, of whom he has said that he was “a gentleman of the pilot and who worked hard to promote this sport.”
Vicente Pérez Agulló also remembered the figure of his father and his uncles and his love for the pilot. “This year, my father's brother, Pepe, who was a player and honorary president of the Valencian Pilota Federation, left us.” Of the three brothers, Pérez Agullo recalled that “they all didn't care about winning or losing as long as they saw a good game. “This is a gentleman's sport, which has very noble qualities.” To conclude, he hoped that “the trophy lasts over time and that people can come and enjoy.”
