The son of the mayor and precursor of modern Benidorm, Francisco Javier Zaragoza, spoke about the lesser-known aspects of the character
Tribute conference to Pedro Zaragoza of the Opinion Club of Benidorm
The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Hall has hosted last night the «Conference about Pedro Zaragoza Orts. Mayor of Benidorm », organized by the Opinion Club with the collaboration of the Benidorm City Council and given by his son, Francisco Javier, 'Quico', Zaragoza.
Pedro Zaragoza (1922-2008) was mayor of Benidorm between 1950 and 1967. He is recognized as the greatest promoter of the tourist city known today around the world. In 2022, coinciding with the centenary of his birth, the City Council established the 'Pedro Zaragoza Year'.
The municipal Assembly Hall, as in the last calls of the Opinion Club, once again became small due to the large number of people attracted by the event. Among the attendees, the mayor, Toni Pérez, members of all the groups with municipal representation, and the provincial deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate.
Francisco Javier Zaragoza is a practicing lawyer and doctor of law. In his speech, he elaborated on the lesser-known aspects of 'Don Pedro', his family relationships, his time in municipal and national politics, and his great achievements without which the Benidorm we know today would not exist.
