L'Associació de Penyes repeats location after last year's success
More than 130 clubs celebrate this Sunday 'La Mona' in Séquia Mare Park
The City Council has four park-and-ride parking spaces in the immediate vicinity
More than 130 clubs celebrate this Sunday, April 9, the traditional act of 'La Mona' in Parque de la Séquia Mare. After last year's success, the Associació de Penyes chaired by Ramón Cano has decided to repeat the location in this green area already integrated into the urban fabric, with easy pedestrian access and in the vicinity of which, in addition, the City Council has several park-and-ride parking spaces to provide service to those who, due to logistical reasons, have to travel with a private vehicle.
The Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles, stressed "the suitability of this venue due to its proximity and because it allows 'La Mona' to live in a country setting as tradition dictates". Likewise, it has been transferred that "the construction work of the youth hostel that the City Council is currently developing in Parque de la Séquia Mare within the EDUSI project will not interfere with the celebration of 'La Mona' since the perimeter of the work will be delimited and fenced off”.
Regarding parking, the mayor has reported that in front of the Parque de la Séquia Mare, on Avenida Comunidad Valenciana there is a park-and-ride with a capacity for about a hundred vehicles. There is also another car park on Italia street, with around 300 spaces, connected to the park through Els Tolls pedestrian walkway and Comunidad Europea avenue. In addition, on the occasion of the celebration of 'La Mona', the City Council is going to set up a third and fourth park-and-ride next to the nightclubs and on the plot of the old laundry.
Carrobles reported that vehicle access to the site for loading and unloading will be allowed until 09:00, and has to leave before that time. Subsequently, the entrance will be re-enabled from 7:00 p.m. In the same way, it will not be possible to fire.
The Associació de Penyes has planned the distribution of more than 2,300 'monas' (sweet buns), among the peñistas. In addition, in collaboration with the Department of the Environment, a recycling campaign will be launched to promote the collection of waste during the event.
