‘Tornar al cole’, journey to a childhood in black and white that happened thanks to ‘La Barqueta’

The Cultural and Recreational Association ‘La Barqueta’ has opened in its headquarters in Tomás Ortuño Street the exhibition 'Tornar al cole ’, a compilation of 200 photographs that return to the school years in black and white of the 50s of the last century.

On its first day of open doors, the exhibition has been visited by numerous audiences, including the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, accompanied by a representative of the three political groups represented in the City Hall. Also, of course, a large delegation of the Festes Majors Patronals of Benidorm with the queens, Marina Carrillo and Paula Mayor, and the president of the Comissió, Roberto Carretero.

The president of perpetual honor of the Comissió de Festes, and also of 'La Barqueta', Francisco Llorens, 'Paco Rosera', acted as a cicerone before the congregated public and responded to the curiosity of the visitors who crowded  the association's premises as usual .

"We have tried," Llorens said, "to move years ago, when many of us were still children and went to school in Benidorm." Upon entering ‘La Barqueta’, a table and a small chair invite the curious to sit down to remember the the photos in the national school. Black and white images that were stored among childhood memories and that today, “thanks to the collaboration of partners and friends we have recovered so that all the people of Benidorm can enjoy them,” says Paco Rosera.

In the exhibition ’there are photos of students with the priest, the nun teacher or the national teacher in the middle. Also individual, with faces of being an angel; or the colored ones, typical of these times. There is also the world map with countries that no longer exist, the map of Spain of the two Castles (the New and the Old) and, of course, the ‘Encyclopedia’ of instilling ‘ the spirit of the nation’ ’. The exhibition shows the Rubio notebooks (which are still published), with which calligraphy was learned and to accurately hold the fountain pen and the occasional TBO and comic books of the Warrior of the Mask and the Jabato.

‘Tornar al cole’ is, without a doubt, a recommended sample for nostalgics and for those who want to know what Benidorm was like that would soon grow to be the city it is today. The exhibition will remain open until October 9, in the afternoon, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
