Tears and ashes, final stage of Benidorm Carnival with the Burial of the Sardine
The carnival of Benidorm came to an end last night with the traditional Burial of the Sardine among tears, sobs and generalized mourning of the public who walked the image of the fish through the central streets of the town.
The Associació de Penyes ‘Verge del Sofratge’, organizer of the event together with the Department of Fiestas, made every effort to say good bye to Don Carnal until next year. The councilor of the area, Jesús Carrobles, along with other members of the municipal corporation joined the duel headed by the president of the Clubs and that of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals, Adrián Romero and Batiste Rostoll. Together with the Queen, Paula Pérez.
Practically a thousand members of the clubs of rigorous mourning, neighbors and tourists accompanied the cheerful funeral procession. At the rhythm of ‘bandeta ', the entourage procession to Poniente, next to Paseo de Colón, where the fish-shaped stone cardboard succumbed, as tradition dictates, to the flames and fireworks announced that Lent is already here.
