A talk on euthanasia opens the events of Alzheimer's Week in Benidorm
The Association of Relatives, Patients, and Collaborators of Alzheimer's, AFA Marina Baixa, is celebrating a new edition of Alzheimer's Week starting this Wednesday, in which numerous activities will take place to raise awareness of the need to research this disease and raise funds. to develop projects to improve the quality of life of the affected people. The Councilor for Social Welfare, Ángela Zaragozí, explained that all the activities are organized by AFA-Marina Baixa, in collaboration with Benidorm City Council, Alicante Provincial Council, and Dret a Morir Dignament (DMD) collective of the Valencian Community.
A conference titled “Let's Talk about Euthanasia”, by the doctor in Health Sciences and member of MDM Alicante, Marisa Velasco, will be the first of the events scheduled for this edition. It will take place this Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m., in the Assembly Hall of the Casa del Fester, where the official opening of Alzheimer's Week will also take place and the AFA solidarity calendar for the year 2024 will be presented. the councilor
The programming will continue on Friday, September 15, and Monday, the 18, with the second edition of the “Gerolimpiadas”, two days of fun and coexistence between 6th-grade students of the El Murtal public school and users of AFA Marina Baixa and the Savia and Ballesol residences. They will take place at the Pepa Esperanza municipal center, where this association has its headquarters, starting at 10:30 a.m.
On Tuesday, the 19th, AFA Marina Baixa users and families will take an excursion to Novelda to visit the Bocopa Wineries and the Magdalena Sanctuary.
Next, on Wednesday, September 20, a mass will be celebrated in memory of those who died in the last year due to the effects of this disease, which will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish of Nuestra Señora de la Almudena, in the neighborhood from Foietes-Colonia Madrid.
Finally, Ángela Zaragozí indicated that on Thursday, September 21, coinciding with World Alzheimer's Day, information tables will be installed in three points of the municipality: the Plaza de SS MM Los Reyes de España, the Plaza de la Creu and the Tomás Ortuño Street, next to the Municipal Market, to provide advice to the population about this disease and the work carried out by AFA, as well as to raise awareness about Alzheimer's and other dementias. At noon the reading of a manifesto will take place at the doors of the Town Hall and, finally, at 8 p.m. the official closing of Alzheimer Week 2023 will take place.
