Benidorm City Council’s Department of Education continues to deliver the Summer Educational Support Programme (PAEV), an initiative aimed at strengthening the learning of primary school students who require academic support during the summer period. Benidorm Mayor Toni Pérez and Education Councillor Maite Moreno visited the facilities at CEIP Leonor Canalejas, where the programme is being held, to learn more about the work being carried out by both the students and the teaching team.

This year’s programme has 64 participating students from the first to the sixth year of Primary Education. Of these, 13 are taking part through a 100% grant funded by the City Council, aimed at children from families facing greater socio-economic difficulties.

Classes are held from Monday to Friday in two sessions. The first, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., is aimed at students in Years 2, 4 and 6 of Primary Education, while the second, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., brings together pupils in Years 1, 3 and 5. Throughout the programme, students receive support in Spanish Language, Mathematics, English and Valencian, while also working on study techniques, reading comprehension, verbal and mathematical reasoning, attention, memory, work organisation and learning habits tailored to each student’s needs.

Education Councillor Maite Moreno highlighted that “this initiative aims to improve academic performance, strengthen core skills and encourage the development of study habits, while also providing specific support to students who face greater difficulties and facilitating access to this educational resource for families with fewer financial resources.”

Through this programme, Benidorm City Council is reaffirming its commitment to equal opportunities and to supporting students who require more personalised follow-up, helping them start the next academic year better prepared.
