Students of 38 different nationalities of the IES l'Almadrava celebrate the International Day of the Mother Tongue
The l'Almadrava Secondary School of Benidorm is celebrating its International Mother Language Day throughout the day, which is celebrated worldwide on February 21 but which, due to the needs of the school calendar, has had to be moved to today.
This is the fifth edition of Mother Language Day in a center that trains more than 750 students from 38 different nationalities. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the councilor for Youth, Ana Pellicer, accompanied the director, Mariola Frasquet, faculty and students in part of the activities that took place in the morning.
At 10.00 am, the colla of 'xirimiters i tabaleters' of the center have started the traditional Valenciana parade and 'dansà'. Then, in the audiovisual room, a folkloric roots show has taken place where pieces of short theater, typical dances, recited, or sung representative melodies from the countries of origin of the students have been performed. During the ceremony, the Local Assembly of the Red Cross was honored.
Simultaneously, in the different dependencies of the institute, there have been workshops with activities such as bazo, trivial, 'jocs tradicionals valencians', 'muixerangues', circus, zumba, or crepes, among others. The students have also conscientiously prepared a Gastronomic Fair with typical dishes from different countries that could be tasted during the meal. The benefits of this activity have been entirely allocated to the Red Cross in Benidorm.
