Seguridad Ciudadana y Fiestas coordinan el dispositivo especial para las Festes Majors Patronals

The mascletàs will take place Foietes Avenue, while the parade floats will follow a revised route and set off from Elche Park

Emilio Ortuño Street will be closed to traffic from next Monday until 16 November to allow the'porrat' fair to be set up.

With less than two weeks to go before the start of Benidorm’s Patron Saint Festivities, the city is finalising coordination of the special security arrangements that will be put in place for the celebrations. Councillors for Fiestas and Public Service, Mariló Cebreros and Jesús Carrobles, chaired a security coordination meeting today attended by the Local Police, National Police, Fire Service, Red Cross and Civil Protection, as well as representatives of the Comissió de Festes Majors Patronals and the Associació de Penyes Verge del Sofratge.

Particular attention was given during the meeting to the change of location for the mascletàs, the traditional firecracker displays, which this year will be held on Avenida de Foietes, running parallel to Foietes Park. In addition, due to construction work on the Jaime I underground car park, the route of the float parade scheduled for Wednesday, 11 November, will be modified. This year, the parade will set off from Elche Park and finish on Avenida de Alcoy.

Each event included in the programme was reviewed, and the technical resources and personnel required for each one were determined to ensure public safety and the smooth running of all activities. It was also agreed that the installation of inflatable play structures in public spaces would not be authorised, except for those specifically included in the official Patron Saint Festivities programme.

Although the first events will begin on Friday, 6 November, Emilio Ortuño Avenue is scheduled to close to traffic on 2 November, between its junction with Ruzafa and the intersection with Calle Primavera, to allow the porrat fair to be assembled and installed. The road is expected to reopen on Tuesday, 17 November.

This will be the main road closure affecting traffic, as the remaining restrictions will involve temporary closures of certain streets, including Venus, Ruzafa and Foietes, during events such as the mascletàs, street processions, the Humour Parade and the float parade.

Depending on the number of people attending, temporary traffic restrictions may also be introduced in the vicinity of the fairground, where the funfair will be located.
