More than 150 students have participated in the initiative, promoted by the Department of Equality in 4 years
The poster project against gender violence of the students of IES Pere Mª Orts receives a grant from the Provincial Council
The poster project against gender violence that is carried out annually by the students of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch and promoted by the Department of Equality has received a grant of 2,102.98 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante within the call for programs and activities for equal opportunities and prevention of gender violence.
The councillor of Equality, Angela Zaragozí, recalled that "this project emerged four years ago from the Department as a proposal addressed to the Department of Visual Arts of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch." The scope of the proposal was "to create a collection of posters in which, from the perspective of young people, it could be denounced and made society aware of the great problem that sexist violence represents."
Zaragozí explained that "this project has become a curricular activity within the subject of‘ Audiovisual Culture ’which is taken by students of 1st and 2nd Artistic Baccalaureate of the IES." Throughout these four years "more than 150 male and female students have participated in this initiative, to whom a simulation of what would be a real assignment where they have to meet certain requirements is proposed." Before the realization of the posters “young people receive training in gender and equality to be aware of the problem, providing them with tools so that they can achieve the requirements that are demanded in the simulation of the activity and, at the same time, prevent behaviors in the future".
The councilor has stressed that “a fundamental part of the project, both for the students and for the activity itself, is the public exhibition of the posters, since it makes visible the talent and work of the participants and at the same time awareness of the social scourge that is gender violence ”.
In this regard, he specified that "this year, in addition to exhibiting the posters at the IES itself and at the City Council's Espai d'Art, organized by the Department of Culture, which also participates in the project, we wanted to take the posters to foot of the street ”. Thus, during the month of May, the works made by the students of IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch were exhibited in 31 backlit 'muppis' distributed throughout the city,
Zaragozí has stressed "the importance of involving the young population so that they are the agents of change that our society needs to eradicate inequality and violence"; and she has thanked the Diputación de Alicante "that one more year has trusted in this project and supports it with this grant."
