Pink Weekend will impregnate this weekend the old town and the viewpoint with the LGBT environment

23 May 2017
El Pink Weekend impregnará este fin de semana el casco antiguo y el Mirador del ambiente LGBT

The 'younger brother' of Pride, in which more than 2,000 people are expected, joins the national calendar of LGBT parties

The old town and El Castillo viewpoint will be impregnated this weekend of the LGBT spirit in the eighth edition of the Pink Weekend, today presented by the Councilor for Events and Festivals, José Ramón González de Zárate, and Santos Torres, one of the promoters of this activity and Benidorm Pride. An event that works as an advance to the Pride of September and with which Visit Benidorm Foundation also collaborates.

De Zárate has remarked that although the event -deemed by the businessmen of the environment of the old town- has eight editions, it has been in the last two years "when there has been a highlight" thanks to the involvement of the organizers of Pride . Thus, in the first editions the parties were limited only to the interiors of the environment, while last year and this the activity "goes out" and also reaches the establishments 'gay friendly' of the old town.

The activity of Pink Weekend will begin this Thursday, May 25, with themed parties in the pubs of the old town. On Friday, at 19.00 hours will begin the Pink Weekend Variety Show, a free party until midnight with drags, tributes, djs, singers and dancers in the Mirador del Castillo. On Saturday, the 27th, at the same time and stage, Pink Paradise will take place, as well as live performances and Drag Attack! Will reunite the dj's Jeff Spinner, John Fenix and Deebanshee.

According to Santos Torres explained, it is expected that during the weekend will pass through these parties "more than 2,000 people," a figure that was reached in the seventh edition. In this respect, the promoter has highlighted the important promotional work that has been done on this event and Benidorm Pride both nationally - with the appearance in the magazine 'Shanguide'- and in the United Kingdom.

Zárate and Torres have indicated that the Pink Weekend has been incorporated this year into the calendar of national LGBT parties, and the selection of the date of celebration has been made "to not coincide with any similar event." In fact, Benidorm "opens with the Pink Weekend the calendar of LGBT parties and closes it with Benidorm Pride in September".
