A photographic exhibition reviews 30 years of 'amateur' theater in Benidorm

25 October 2022
Una muestra fotográfica repasa 30 años de teatro ‘amateur’ en Benidorm

It is the prelude to a book that will be presented shortly

Starting today, the Espai d'Art of Benidorm City Council hosts a photographic exhibition that reviews 30 years of 'amateur' theater in the city, based on the theatrical productions promoted in the last three decades by Manuel Palazón and staged by different entities or groups. The mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez; and Palazón himself have been the first to tour this show, accompanied by members of the Municipal Corporation and theater fans who have participated in some of these productions.

The exhibition, which can be visited mainly in the morning until November 18, is made up of 290 photographs and serves to recall "30 years of theatrical activity", as Palazón has pointed out. A time in which under his direction there have been "1,000 performances and 120 productions" that have been seen in Benidorm, different parts of the province, and even outside the Valencian Community, and "in which a total of around 300 have participated. actors".

During the opening of the exhibition, the mayor pointed out that "Palazón's personal contribution to culture in general and to the theater, in particular, is priceless", and highlighted that through his work "thousands of people from Benidorm have known and enjoyed the theatre”, also creating a “hobby” for this artistic and scenic modality. The exhibition, Toni Pérez has affirmed, is "a still photo of a vital trajectory" and of "the history of the 'amateur' theater in Benidorm".

Palazón, in turn, has indicated that the images collect different moments of performances made first, since 1992, with the theater group of Benidorm Choral Association; and later with Tossal Teatre, made up exclusively of teachers; the Catársis group and different generations of students of the Theater subject of the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch.

The Councilor for Culture has advanced that this exhibition is "the prelude to the book on three decades of 'amateur' theater that will be presented on November 8 in the Assembly Hall of the City Council, within the events organized on the occasion of the Cultural Week of Festes Majors Patronals”.
