Within the acts prior to the celebration of Holy Week in Benidorm, the Department of Culture has scheduled the performance of 'The Passion', by Jerusalem Cultural Group of Elche, which has taken place in Sant Jaume and Santa Anna's church.

The staging, which was scheduled to take place in Óscar Esplá auditorium in Parque de la Aigüera, was moved to the temple due to weather forecasts that advanced the rains that have fallen in the town on Saturday.

The mayor, Toni Pérez, together with the councillors for Culture and Fiestas, Jaime Jesús Pérez and Jesús Carrobles, other members of the corporation and the regional deputy, Manuel Pérez Fenoll, attended the theatrical performance in which a hundred actors, between 2 months and 70 years, none of them professional participated.

The director of the group, Víctor Meseguer, has delivered, before starting the work, a commemorative figure of the Lady of Elche to the mayor as thanks for the support received from the City Council to publicize the performance of this sacramental drama.

The Jerusalem Cultural Group has resumed, after the parenthesis caused by the pandemic, this year the performances of The Passion with the audience. The work will tour various locations in Alicante and Murcia, before returning to Elche. The performances began in 1984 in the city of Elche, during Lent, and to date, it has been seen in a good part of the Spanish geography. Due to its cultural and artistic value, La Pasión was declared a Festivity of Provincial Tourist Interest in 2015.
