The majority of artisans come from the region and during the month of July they will offer workshops open to the public
Nearly thirty artists and artisans fill the squares of the old town in 'Les nits del Castell'
About thirty artists and craftsmen participate in a new edition of 'Les nits del Castell', a consolidated initiative organized by the Department of Commerce, aimed at boosting the commercial and hospitality of the old town, and that takes place throughout the summer in the Plazas de Castelar, Santa Ana and La Señoría. The mayor, Toni Pérez; the councilman of Commerce, Ana Pellicer; several members of the corporation; the secretary of the Independent Association of Merchants (AICO), Juan José Camarasa; and representatives of the Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users of Benidorm visited the stands and greeted the artists and craftsmen during the official opening of 'Les Nits del Castell'.
The councilor of the area pointed out "as in previous years, in this activity we bet decidedly by local artisans and also by those of the region" who are at the head of most of the 17 craft stalls that have this edition of ' Les Nits del Castell ', which is completed by several professionals from Alicante and Zaragoza. These artisans will offer jewelry items in silver and precious stones; miniatures and hair pins made in resin and silver; jewelery in leather and steel, and also in silver and natural elements such as orange peel; ornaments in cold porcelain; juggling games; crystal, stone or mother-of-pearl pendants; handmade soaps; macrame; imitation jewelry; crafts with marine crystals; and blown and modeled glass.
As a novelty, this year has installed a fork position made with metal castings and enameled heat, and another set with precious stones. In addition, the Association of Disabled People of Benidorm (Asmibe) will have a stand in which they will exhibit fans and book binding and leather goods; and as in other editions, the artisans will give workshops during a good part of July at 7.30 pm open to the public in which they will show how they make the products that they later put on sale.
All these craft stalls will operate until September 15 at Plaza de la Señoría; while the activity of the 12 painters installed at Plaza de Castelar will continue until the end of that month. Specifically, 'Les Nits del Castell' has three portrait artists, seven cartoonists and two landscape painters. Until September 30 will be also the two people who make braids with thread at Plaza de Santa Ana.
Pellicer indicated that "edition after edition has confirmed that 'Les Nits del Castell' is a magnet for many residents and tourists. For this reason, we have considered it interesting to take advantage of this circumstance to transfer to the citizens who come to this point other leisure proposals that Benidorm puts at your disposal during the summer season. And for this reason, this year the craft stalls will inform about the programming and cultural activities of the city. "
