On the occasion of the celebrations of LGBTI Pride Day that is commemorated on June 28, the departments of Equality and Social Welfare organize the exhibition 'Muses of Cape Verde' by the German photojournalist Juliette Brinkmann that can be visited at Casa del Fester ' Diego Cano Enguera 'from the 1st to the 30th of this month.
This morning, the councilors of both areas, Ángela Zaragozí and Ángela Llorca, together with Carolina Laferre, a person familiar with the exhibition, inaugurated the exhibition composed of three narratives: "Pride of Cape Verde, Daily Life and Muses of Cape Verde." The exhibition includes about twenty black and white snapshots that mainly show the faces of some of the participants in the first Pride march that was held in Africa in 2013, in Cape Verde, with the aim of drawing attention to equality of rights.
Brinkmann, trained in the alternative art world of Berlin in the 1990s, has worked for more than a decade in Mindelo, on the island of São Vicente, the second largest city in Cape Verde. Since 2012, her work has focused on capturing the LGBTI reality of the country.
