Muñoz says that, with regard to the blue zone parking contract, “we would rather take the time needed to get it right than rush and get it wrong”
The Councillor for Mobility calls for technical staff to be given time to prepare “the best possible tender specifications”
Benidorm’s Councillor for Mobility, Francis Muñoz, today addressed the new blue-zone parking contract being prepared by the City Council, stating that “we would rather take the time needed to get the tender documents and procurement process right than rush and get it wrong”.
Muñoz was responding to a statement issued by the Socialist Party (PSOE) earlier today, arguing that “the people of Benidorm deserve a properly drafted contract that meets the city’s changing needs, not a rushed tender designed to grab a headline”.
Muñoz stressed that “mobility has changed, and the contract must reflect that”. He added that “we need to draw up the best possible tender specifications, ensuring legal certainty, strengthening oversight of the contractor to prevent a repeat of past problems, and securing the best possible terms for Benidorm”.
Warning that “a rushed tender could lead to appeals or the contract being annulled, which I believe nobody on this City Council wants”, the councillor emphasised that “the tender will be launched once the specifications are ready and all the necessary reports have received a favourable assessment. To achieve this, we need to let the technical staff do their work, bearing in mind the scale of this contract, which covers blue-zone parking, the other regulated parking zones and the vehicle recovery service”.
The Councillor for Mobility also pointed out that, while the new contract is being prepared, “the service remains in operation and continues to run as normal”. He criticised what he described as the PSOE’s “lack of consistency in calling for speed while also demanding rigour and oversight”.
“To achieve the latter two, we need to let the technical staff do their work,” he concluded.
