El Archivo Municipal incorpora a su fondo más de 5.000 documentos y folletos turísticos para su consulta pública

In the last year and a half, the Municipal Archive of Benidorm City Council has incorporated more than 5,000 documents, files and tourism brochures into its collection for public consultation upon request. The Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, explained that "during 2019 we have promoted this incorporation of documentation into our Municipal Archive, thus guaranteeing its cataloging and conservation and making it more accessible to citizens." A Municipal Archive, has deepened, that "it is, without a doubt, a very useful tool not only for historical research, but also for the operation of the local administration" and that "also in many cases makes it easier for individuals and companies to exercise their activity".

According to the data provided by Pellicer, in 2019 a total of 4,246 documents and 817 files were incorporated into the fund, which have been identified, described and classified. Among this documentation is the one related to Art, Culture and Tourism Promotion from the 1974-1978 period; tax ordinances from 1963 to 1991; or urban planning licenses, major and minor works projects, partial plans and municipal works from 1967 to 1982. 61 posters were also incorporated on events or activities carried out in the city from 1973 to 2018, and 267 plans of the Urban Planning department dated from from 1968. In addition, the documentation of the Benidorm Song Festival has been added, of which a retrospective exhibition was held last year at Boca Calvari Museum.

The head of Historical Heritage has indicated that "during the state of alarm, the Municipal Archive has maintained its activity, behind closed doors, to continue incorporating new documentation, identifying it and making it more accessible for its location and consultation". At this point, it has been reported that last year 345 citizens and researchers consulted the documentary archive of the Municipal Archive, highlighting those related to urban plans.

Among the works carried out during the last two and a half months is the description of 577 tourism brochures of national and international destinations, dated between 1951 and 1995, the oldest of which corresponds to a guide of hotels and travel agencies in Egypt . Also during this period, the Municipal Minutes Books of the years 1732, 1844, 1846, 1850, 1853, 1854, 1860, 1861, 1862, 1863, 1902 and 1903, which had previously been digitized, have been extracted and summarized.

Pellicer stressed that "the description and digitization of these Minute Books is very important for their preservation and dissemination, as it is also key not only to preserve the history of Benidorm but also to make it available to citizens".

She has also indicated that "thanks to the work of emptying these Books, as the extract and summary of their content is technically defined, interesting findings have come to light on episodes in the history and evolution of Benidorm in the 18th, 19th centuries and XX ”. A documentation, has advanced, that "we intend to put in value".
