Minute of silence in Benidorm for the woman murdered in Pamplona
Benidorm City Council has once again condemned gender violence with a minute of silence in memory of the last victim, a woman murdered in Pamplona. At Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España has been hosted this silent rally led by the First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the Corporation.
On this occasion, the woman, of Chinese origin, was 47 years old and had allegedly been stabbed to death by her partner, of the same nationality and 51. The victim had a minor daughter.
With this there are already 26 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,209 since 2003, the date on which the victims of gender violence began to be counted. In 2023, gender-based violence has already left 26 minors orphaned. Likewise, as of today, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence reports that there are two more possible cases under investigation.
The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
