Benidorm City Hall has kept a minute of silence this afternoon in memory of the latest victim of gender violence, the woman murdered on Thursday in the town of Puerto Rico (Gran Canaria). The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Equality, Paquita Ripoll, have led the rally, in which representatives of the various political groups, municipal workers and associations have participated to show their firmest rejection of this social scourgel.
On this occasion, a 42-year-old woman of Swedish origin was found dead by a Benemérita patrol in her apartment with evident signs of gender violence after being beaten by her husband. Despite the fact that it was the husband of 45 years who alerted the Emergency Services, he was arrested after being observed in the body of the deceased signs of criminality.
The Department of Equality reminds women who may be facing a case of abuse can go to municipal services and also use the toll-free number 016 against gender violence. The call is not reflected in the telephone bill, but it is advisable to delete it from the list of calls from mobile phones.
