Minute of silence in Benidorm in rejection of the 4 new cases of sexist violence occurred since Friday

09 July 2018
Minuto de silencio en Benidorm como repulsa a los 4 nuevos casos de violencia machista ocurridos desde el viernes

Benidorm has condemned today the last cases of gender violence registered in Spain since last Friday: two in Madrid, one in Asturias and another in Huelva. Members of the municipal corporation of Benidorm, headed by the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the councilwoman of Equality, Paquita Ripoll; as well as municipal workers and neighbors have concentrated this afternoon at Plaza de Sus Majestades los Reyes de España to observe a minute of silence as a sign of mourning for the victims.

In Madrid in the neighborhood of Tetuán, a man has killed his 47-year-old ex-partner, about whom he had a restraining order after being convicted of ill-treatment. In the Asturian town of Langreo, an 80-year-old woman has been murdered by her husband, while in Lepe a man has murdered his ex-wife, who was only 24 years old, about whom he also had a restraining order. The last case has occurred in the town of Collado Villalba in Madrid, where a Rumanian man has killed his wife of 48 years. All of them have been arrested and brought to justice.

These last four victims bring to 21 the women killed by their partners or former partners so far this year. These violent deaths leave, in addition, 14 minors orphans.
