The works will be finished tomorrow morning and traffic is diverted so that vehicles can reach the center

Mediterráneo Avenue is cut to the traffic today at 4:00 pm at the height of Orts Llorca to undertake urgent works due to the risk of cold front

09 September 2019
La Avenida del Mediterráneo se corta hoy a las 16:00 horas a la altura de Orts Llorca para acometer obras urgentes por el riesgo de gota fría

The Councilor for Works and Mobility, José Ramón González De Zárate, has announced this morning the need to make a traffic cut at 16:00 this afternoon on Mediterráneo Avenue, from the confluence with Doctor Orts Llorca, to undertake “urgent” works due to the risk of a cold front expected for this week.

De Zárate explained that “on the occasion of the works to install the anti-storm tank on Mediterráneo Avenue, the rainwater collector that descends from Doctor Orts Llorca street is cut off”, so “if it occurs heavy rains could suffer significant flooding, "so the councillor said" we must act urgently to prevent that possibility. "

The mayor has apologized to the neighbors for possible inconvenience and has clarified that "the work will continue until Tuesday morning and we will enable alternatives to traffic for access to the Old Town." Traffic will enter through Europa Avenue, diverted towards Emilio Romero to Gerona Street, continuing until reaching Esperanto Street, where you will eventually be allowed to turn left to reach Plaza de la Hispanidad, from where you can return to Avenida Bilbao.

De Zárate has insisted that "we will try to do the work as quickly as possible", and has asked the neighbors for "patience" "because it is a very important work in the face of the risk of a cold front". Also, the councillor has explained that in the streets that will absorb traffic, such as Gerona Street, it is temporarily prohibited to take elements to the public thoroughfare, such as tables and chairs, by the establishments in those areas.
