The mayor of Benidorm claims resources for the regeneration of pioneer tourist destinations

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, today has called for "a determined commitment" to "pioneering tourist destinations" to invest in "regeneration and repositioning," as tourism has been consolidated "as one of the main industries of the country ".

Pérez has launched this demand in the course of an informative breakfast organized by Executive Forum in Madrid, presented by the president of the PP in the Valencian Community, Isabel Bonig; Who has affirmed of the councilman benidormense that is "the mayor more emblematic of the Valencian Community". In this point, Pérez recalled the contribution that these municipalities make to the National Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and their respective Autonomous Communities. In the specific case of Benidorm, he has detailed that the city "represents more than 7% of the GDP of the Region of Valencia and 40% of its tourist activity".

Before the audience, the mayor has moved the challenge facing Benidorm to become the first smart tourist destination in the country, has defended the commitment to new technologies applied to tourism management, and has listed the steps that have been taken in this strategy , all of them aimed at "keeping us at the forefront of tourism in the 21st century". A work, he stressed, that the City Council is doing with the private sector through Visit Benidorm Fundación, the first in Spain to be certified in smart tourism.

Thus, Pérez has referred to the implementation of a network of beacons in the main tourist attractions of the city or the installation of free Wi-Fi in the beaches and areas with greater tourist influx, and has affected the return and possibilities that suppose both technologies for the improvement of the tourist management.

Apart from technology and innovation, the mayor has also reported the progress made in terms of universal accessibility; has extolled the sustainable nature of the urban model of Benidorm; and highlighted the efficient management of water resources.

In the section of claims, the mayor has demanded for Benidorm an improvement in rail communications, mainly with Alicante airport and with high speed; as well as the recovery of the National Hydrological Plan (NHP) that "will forever eliminate uncertainty about water supply."
