Benidorm commemorates in an institutional plenary session the 692 anniversary of its foundation
Benidorm has commemorated this Monday the 692 anniversary of its founding, with an institutional event held in the Plenary Hall of the City Council in which it was recalled the first letter of Poblament granted by the Almirant Bernat de Sarrià on May 8, 1325. An act in which the members of the local corporation participated; as well as members of the Security Corps and Forces; representatives of the Commission of Festes Majors Patronals, the Association of Penyes, the Carta de Poblament Group; and members of social, neighborhood and cultural groups.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, has recognized the altruistic work carried out by the scholar Pere Mª Orts i Bosch and by Professor Pasqual Almiñana to "shed light" on this historical fact and to disseminate it, and has called for "greater involvement to ensure that new generations continue to join "to the celebration and representation of l'Atorgament de la Carta de Poblament, which every year and for 25 years, members of the Association of Penyes has performed it.
Pérez has added to the invitation made on Saturday by Almiñana himself during his speech as the representative of the organization and stressed that the continuity of this representation ensures "its survival in the future" and guarantees that "in the following decades, we can all approach the knowledge of our past as a town."
The mayor has stressed the need for citizens from Benidorm to know their past, since "a town that remembers where it comes from is a town that moves forward into the future with clearer ideas."
