La Barqueta opens the doors of its traditional Nativity scene made up of more than 300 pieces

08 December 2023
Belén de La Barqueta

Coinciding with the Day of the Immaculate Conception, the La Barqueta Cultural and Recreational Association has fulfilled one of its traditions by opening the doors of its traditional Bethlehem this Friday, one of the classics of the Christmas holidays in Benidorm which represents one of the essential events of these dates. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has participated in the official inauguration of this nativity scene, together with the mayor of Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, and other members of the Municipal Corporation, including the regional deputy José Ramón González de Zárate. In this way, they have accompanied and supported the presidents of this entity, Francisco Llorens Orts, Rosera, and the rest of the members of La Barqueta in the work they do to keep local traditions alive.

The event was also attended by Angélica Morenilla Such and Daniela Talavera Ventura, queens of the Patronal Major Festivals of 2023, along with their courts of honour and mayorals of the Festival Committee of 2024, headed by its president, María Dolores Cano. The festive representatives, together with the first mayor, have been in charge of turning on the lights of this Nativity scene and the first who have been lucky enough to be able to see it.

The La Barqueta Nativity Scene has more than 300 pieces, more than twenty of them mechanized, that represent different scenes from the nativity scene tradition, such as the Annunciation to the Virgin; the search for an inn with Joseph and Mary on the back of a donkey; the Nativity scene; the annunciation and adoration of the shepherds; Herod's castle; the different jobs of the time; or the adoration of the Three Wise Men, among others. Likewise, it faithfully reproduces some spaces from antiquity, such as the famous El Tesoro temple in Petra.

Starting today, it can be visited at the ACR La Barqueta headquarters, located at number 62 Tomás Ortuño Street, every day of the week from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., until January 6.

Inauguration of the Municipal Nativity Scene

The ACR La Barqueta is one of the four nativity scenes that can be visited during these dates in Benidorm, along with the monumental one installed at Plaza de la Navidad; that of Casa de Andalucía, at its headquarters on Mercurio Street; and the Municipal Nativity Scene, made by the Nativity Scene Association of the Marina Baixa. The latter opens this Sunday, at noon, in the lobby of the City Hall.
