The mayor and the councilor of the department accompany the general director of Educational Infrastructures to Ausiàs March and Vasco Núñez de Balboa to expedite the start of both projects
The Infraestructures general director of Education visits two schools in Benidorm with works pending execution
The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, accompanied this Wednesday the general director of Educational Infrastructure of the Generalitat Valenciana, Rafael Valcárcel, together with technicians from the Department of Education, to visit two educational centres in the city with works pending execution that were not attended to by the previous autonomous Administration. These are the Ausiàs March and Vasco Núñez de Balboa Infant and Primary schools, whose buildings have various structural damages for which the City Council has been asking for a solution for years.
The first of the stops took place at the CEIP Ausiàs March, where the director of the centre and a representative of the AMPA guided the delegation on a tour of the centre. There, Pérez has explained to the general director the structural problems that once forced him to shore up a part of one of his classrooms and to close several classrooms due to the cracks that appeared as a result of the poor condition of the floor. The mayor recalled that the City Council drafted and presented to the Department of Education in 2022 a project, valued at 1.7 million euros, requesting its inclusion in the Edificant Plan to resolve a good part of the existing problems and also provide other improvements to the centre, such as the construction of a multipurpose room, the expansion of the dining room or the installation of accessible ramps, among others.
Likewise, Rafael Valcárcel has also travelled to the CEIP Vasco Núñez de Balboa, where actions worth 1.8 million euros were claimed from the Generalitat. In this case, to resolve the damage to the structure of the gym and the locker rooms, as well as other actions that have been necessary for years, such as the renovation of bathrooms, the installation of an elevator in the Primary building, the walls and the children's playground, or the comprehensive renovation of the electrical installation.
The director of this school has also shown the general director of Infrastructure various spaces in the school so that he could check 'in situ' the deficiencies.
After these visits, both the mayor and the general director have stated that both administrations "are working side by side so that these projects can be resumed shortly, as they are necessary works but also of justice," stated Toni Pérez. The first mayor, in addition, has shown his conviction that "the new heads of the Generalitat will have more sensitivity than their predecessors to quickly and effectively address the needs presented by these and other educational centres in our city, as they have already demonstrated with the IES Pere Maria Orts i Bosch”.
