With this, there are 57 women murdered by gender violence in 2023 and 1,240 since 2003

Benidorm expresses its condemnation for the last confirmed sexist crime committed in Malaga last August

31 January 2024
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

This afternoon, Benidorm City Council expressed its rejection and condemnation of the latest sexist murder confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence. This is the case of a woman murdered in Malaga on August 6, 2023, at the hands of her partner.

The City Council has called a silent rally in the Town Hall square to express its rejection of this crime, a rally that has been led by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the mayor of Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and numerous members of the Municipal Corporation.

The woman, a 28-year-old Ukrainian national, was murdered by her 43-year-old partner. The victim did not have any minor sons or daughters nor were there any previous complaints of gender violence against the aggressor.

With this new victim, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in Spain in 2023 rose to 57 and there are now 1,240 since 2003, the date on which victims of violence against women began to be counted.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log.
