The march brought the ‘pink tide’ to various parts of the city, following a shorter route than originally planned due to the threat of rain
Benidorm hosted the 24th edition of the Solidarity March organised by Anémona Marina Baixa this Sunday. The organisation, a self-help group for women with breast and gynaecological cancer in Benidorm and the region, once again brought together hundreds of people in support of the fight against breast cancer. The event coincided with World Breast Cancer Day, which is marked worldwide on Monday, 19 October.
Despite the rain that fell in the city throughout the night and cloudier-than-usual skies, Anémona’s ‘pink tide’ made its way through the city centre. The route was shortened due to the possibility of further rainfall. Starting at Benidorm Town Hall, participants walked along Pont Street, Gambo Street, Martínez Alejos Street, Alcoy Avenue, Europa Avenue and the Mediterranean Avenue, before reaching Plaza de la Hispanidad and returning to the Town Hall.
Benidorm Mayor Toni Pérez, Councillor for Equality Ángela Zaragozí and numerous members of the local council joined Anémona’s members and its president, María Botella, in this solidarity initiative. Also taking part were the queens of the 2026 Festes Majors Patronals, Laura Ivars Marín and Carmen Guillem Capos, together with their courts of honour, representatives of numerous social, festival and neighbourhood associations in Benidorm and a large crowd of residents.
After the march, participants returned to Plaza de SSMM los Reyes de España, where the day continued with a range of activities, including Zumba sessions and a food and drinks stall offering products at affordable prices. Residents enjoyed a selection of dishes generously donated by local restaurants in support of Anémona.
Through this event, Anémona raises funds for the therapeutic activities it provides for its members throughout the year, as well as to support breast cancer research led by GEICAM, the Spanish Breast Cancer Research Group.
Both Toni Pérez and Ángela Zaragozí congratulated María Botella and the association members on the “magnificent organisation” of the 24th edition of the Solidarity March. They also praised their ability to bring together hundreds of residents once again, despite the unfavourable weather forecast, around a shared goal: to tell women living with breast cancer that they are not alone, that many people stand alongside them, and that there is widespread support for research aimed at one day defeating the disease.
On Monday, 19 October, World Breast Cancer Day, the 2026 Manifesto will be read at 7 p.m. in the Assembly Hall at Benidorm Town Hall. This will be followed by a reading of the winning entry in the second edition of the ‘Una idea, pocas palabras, un mundo’ (‘One Idea, Few Words, a World’) short-story competition for Year 10 secondary school students.
