Benidorm returned to live the Carnival yesterday, the first great event of the festive calendar of this 2022 and in which the costume of 'The guardians of the enchanted forest' won the first prize, endowed with 1,000 euros. The jury valued that the proposal was the best of the nearly 30 that could be seen during the parade, which this year has premiered its route ending at Julio Iglesias auditorium in Parque de l'Aigüera and which began at around 9:00 p.m. in Venus street.
The mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Fiestas, Jesús Carrobles; members of the Municipal Corporation; the Queen of the Festes Majors Patronals, Aila Merenciano; and the president of the Association of Penyes 'Verge del Sofratge', Adrián Romero; participated in the awards ceremony for this new edition of the Carnival. In addition to 'The guardians of the enchanted forest', the technical jury recognized 'African Tribe' with the second prize, endowed with 800 euros; and 'La que se avecina' won third place and the 600-euro prize.
'Superheroes' were also awarded 400 euros; 'Journey to the moon', with 200; and 'Clowns of yesterday and today, 'Rainbow Party' and 'Pasteleros/as' with 100 euros each.
As usual, the Queen of the Festes Majors Patronals and her Maid of Honor was in charge of opening this parade, organized by the Associació de Penyes and in which more than 30 groups and individual costumes participated. Just in this category, the Individual, three prizes of 300, 200 and 100 euros were awarded to 'Veneziano', 'Vacuna Batata' and 'Pasta Macarroni'.
After the parade, the participants were able to enjoy the party enlivened by Los 40, with DJs Varu and Aitor Belda, and in which there was also a bar at popular prices.
Benidorm says goodbye to Carnival next Tuesday, March 1, with the Burial of the Sardine, which will begin at 9:00 p.m. at Plaza Mayor and will tour some of the main streets of the city centre.
