The Governing Board agrees to tender the multi-use building project for EPA and Leonor Canalejas school

13 February 2019
La Junta de Gobierno acuerda licitar el proyecto de ejecución del edificio multiusos para la EPA y el colegio Leonor Canalejas

The Local Government Board of Benidorm today has approved the tender for the drafting of the multi-purpose building project for Leonor Canalejas public school and  Adult Training School (EPA), as reported by the mayor, Toni Pérez, who is also responsible of the Education area. This technical assistance contract to draft the execution project will be solved by "public tender", it will be auctioned for 212,342.02 euros, and companies have until February 28 to submit their bids.

The mayor has indicated that with this tender "we follow the process for the construction of this large multipurpose building" on the ground that formerly occupied the homes of Leonor Canalejas teachers, which the City Council demolished -with prior authorization from the Ministry of Education- detect structural problems in one of the blocks.

This new multipurpose building will house on the ground floor spaces for Leonor Canalejas school as a dining room, kitchen, multipurpose room and toilets; while the top three will be for the EPA, thus ending the temporary situation of this center, which was temporarily installed in El Torrejó in 2010.

Pérez recalled that it is "a highly anticipated work in which we are consuming the deadlines within the estimated timeline", and that the City Council will execute after the Ministry has delegated this competence in the local administration within the program 'Edificant' .

Thus, once the execution project is available, the construction works for these new educational spaces "for an amount exceeding 3 million euros" will be tendered.

Apart from the demolition of the old houses of teachers, the City Council has made another performance in Leonor Canalejas following the closure and eviction in summer 2016 of the blocks. Specifically charged to the municipal budget, the auditorium was equipped as a school canteen for the start of the 2016/2017 course. In addition, recently the municipal technical services have got bigger the wall that separates the schoolyard with the floor that previously occupied the houses and where the new building will be built. All these actions were the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, which authorized the City Council to implement them to accelerate the deadlines.
